Child & Adolescent Assessment

Assessments can be valuable in increasing your understanding of the issues and also in clarifying treatment goals.

Cognitive assessments provide a way to gain insight into your child or adolescent's cognitive strengths and weaknesses and understand their unique learning profile. Cognitive testing identifies strengths and weaknesses in key skills such as Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual (or non verbal) Reasoning, Working Memory and Processing Speed. This information can be used to provide direction for targeted learning programs at school and home.

Emotional assessments increase understanding of how kids perceives themselves, their family and the world and illuminate emotional and self esteem difficulties they may have.

Learning, behavioural and emotional recommendations are developed which build on strengths whilst understanding and treating difficulties.

The assessment process varies for each individual and is likely to involve components of the following as needed: parent interview, cognitive and emotional assessment, (including use of tests such as Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Children’s Apperception Test, Bender Gestalt Test etc), observation of behaviour, liaison with schools and health professionals.
